DescriptionVisit the new exhibition “Amsterdam DNA” at the Amsterdam Museum, and discover the history of Amsterdam in less than one hour! Explore the city of Johan Cruijff, Rembrandt, the East India Company and marijuana. Superb interactive displays will explain the rise and reason for the city’s notorious Red Light District, and describe the significance of the spice trade in the city’s development. A memorial to 1,000 years of commerce in the watery city, Amsterdam DNA presents superb stories of entrepreneurship, creativity, citizenship and freedom. See, read, hear and taste how the city came about, and why it was – and still is – what it is. Get a concise overview of the city’s history through interactive images, sound, movement and specially chosen objects. Enjoy the current special exhibition of Ferdinand Bol and Govert Flinck – Rembrandt’s master's pupils. Ferdinand Bol (1616-1680) and Govert Flinck (1615-1660) are two of the most important Amsterdam painters of the Golden Age; they were at least as successful as their former teacher Rembrandt. In the autumn of 2017, the first ever retrospective of Bol and Flinck will take place, in which the Amsterdam Museum and the Rembrandt House Museum are working together to present a unique image of these two artists. The Rembrandt House Museum, the place where Govert Flinck and Ferdinand Bol were trained by Rembrandt, will highlight their exciting learning period. Their further development as absolute masters of their profession will be shown in the Amsterdam Museum.
