DescriptionCatch the train to Enkhuizen from Amsterdam Central Station. Sit back and relax whilst beautiful landscapes roll past the window. On arrival in Enkhuizen, a boat will be waiting to take you to the museum. Walk through history at the open-air museum that covers 15 acres and accommodates authentic buildings from the former Zuiderzee region. Check out the church, a fish-curing shed, a mill, a cheese warehouse, shops and dwelling houses from the surrounding fishing villages. Help craftspeople in the Marker Harbor making nets, produce a rope at the rope-maker’s workplace, give the housemaid a hand, or enjoy a conversation with the ‘inhabitants’ from the former island of Urk. Discover the treasure chamber of the Zuiderzee at the indoor museum. Journey through time with a plethora of unique exhibits that bring you from Enkhuizen along the Afsluitdijk and the Wadden Islands to places in Friesland and after that back to North Holland. Discover the largest collection of wooden ships in the Netherlands, as well as history, photography, traditional costume, design and an educational family exhibition.
