Amsterdam

Museums

The Stedelijk Museum is dedicated to showcasing classic modern, contemporary and futuristic works of art. It also houses a minor collection of works from artists such as Picasso, Chagall and Mondrian. With the philosophy of expanding the small circle of connoisseurs to a large circle, the Stedelijk Museum is renowned as one of the most influential twentieth-century art museums in the world. Founded in 1874, the Stedelijk Museum actually began collecting stimulating contemporary art by 1909, and later added photography and design objects to its collected works. Some of the recent acquisitions at the museum include the works of Paul Chan, Mike Kelley and Cady Noland.
