Visit ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo, a historic zoo near the city center suited for families and nature enthusiasts.
Located 10 minutes from Amsterdam’s city center, ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo sits alongside one of the city’s canals. The zoo features historic monuments, beautiful flower gardens, and a variety of animals, including Asian elephants, lions, Western lowland gorillas, and African penguins. Free entry is available for children up to 12 years old.
This summer, the new ARTIS Aquarium opened, offering an immersive look into underwater ecosystems. Discover colorful coral reefs, special fish species, and learn about marine and freshwater life while observing beneath the Amsterdam canal’s water surface.
The renovated Kerbertterras mimics Madagascar’s environment, home to ring-tailed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs, and Madagascar radiated tortoises. Visitors can stroll through the historic city park, admire monumental buildings, explore the botanical garden, and relax at the vegetarian restaurants on site.
Check the daily schedule for zookeeper presentations about jaguars, Asian elephants, and other animals. The on-site planetarium is included with admission and presents journeys through stars, planets, and the universe.
ARTIS-Groote Museum
The ARTIS-Groote Museum is an interactive nature museum exploring the connections between humans, animals, plants, and microbes within ecosystems. Through more than 1,000 exhibits, visitors can engage their senses to understand shared traits between species and the natural world. Activities and lectures are offered regularly, especially during school holidays.
