Description
Enter Amsterdam's Museum Willet-Holthuysen and take a tour through its exhibition. The museum lies in a grand 17th-century double canal house. In 1895 Mrs. Willet left her opulent house to the city of Amsterdam, including the impressive art collection of her deceased husband Abraham. Walk around the museum and discover his collection which consists of antique furniture, silver, ceramics, sculptures, paintings, and photographs.
Start on the 1st floor and walk through the impressive ballroom done in Louis XVI style. Continue on towards the dining room and the salons of the lord and lady of the house. The garden and the gallery will give you an impression of how the wealthy Willets lived while the kitchen and pantry in the basement will clue you in on the daily lives of the servants. Finally, learn how this green oasis in the heart of Amsterdam was laid out in 18th-century French style and how they managed to fill it with historic trees and plants.
