Description
Anne Frank, famous for the diary she wrote while hiding from Nazi occupiers during World War II, spent much of her childhood in Amsterdam. Born in Frankfurt in 1929, she moved to Amsterdam with her family in 1933 to escape rising antisemitism in Germany.
This tour goes beyond the Secret Annex story to reveal places that shaped Anne’s early years. You will visit the schools she attended, the bookstore where she purchased her diary, and the neighborhood where she played. The route also passes the home of Miep Gies, Otto Frank’s secretary and a key figure who helped protect the family and preserved Anne's diary after their arrest.
The route is set in Amsterdam South, a residential area developed in the 1920s and 1930s. This district showcases innovative urban planning, architecture, and social housing, providing a different perspective on Amsterdam beyond the city center.
