From the 26th of November 2026 up until the 17th January 2027, Amsterdam’s canals become a glowing winter gallery. As night falls, light art appears along the water: luminous forms between historic buildings, color beneath bridges and installations that make familiar canal views feel wonderfully new.
The heated boat keeps the experience comfortable whatever the weather. Watch raindrops drift across the windows, admire Amsterdam beneath a clear winter sky or simply enjoy the warmth inside while the city glows outside. The festival shines either way.
The canals grow quieter after dark; historic streets glow gold and the festival’s installations invite you to look closer. Some are playful, some thought-provoking and some simply make you pause. From the water, you see the artworks as they were meant to be seen framed by the city and reflected in the dark canal surface.
As you cruise past all 20 light artworks, an audio guide in English or Dutch shares the stories behind the light art. Discover the ideas, artists and inspirations behind each installation while the artworks unfold along the route. It is an easy, engaging way to see more and understand more.
The cruise departs from Central Station bridge and Damrak, both a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Before boarding, warm up with a hot chocolate from the departure point shop. A steaming cup, winter air and lights waiting on the water make a fine start to the evening.
