The hotel was a wonderful start to our Europe holiday. We stayed two nights, in two canal side rooms. My daughter uses a wheelchair and the hotel gave us ground floor rooms right next to reception and the restaurant, which was perfect. The rooms had great air conditioning and were beautifully clean. We appreciated the free drink at the bar for not asking for clean towels everyday- this was a nice gesture. The breakfast was delicious and there was a great choice- my 14 year olds were happy, as were we! The location is great- close to the train station so easy to hop on a tram, and not too noisy at night. I wanted to find a nice hotel to start off our trip, where it would be easy for my daughter and relaxing for us all- this was outstanding!
Staff was excellent. The room was spacious and decent but the AC was definitely not performing like it was supposedly set at. Fortunately we were able to open the windows and enjoy fresh air and a fan was available inside the closet. Bar was nice with great service too. You do have to carry you luggage up a flight of stairs to get into the hotel. The hotel is very historical and a total maze. We got lost trying to grt out the first day so that became a fun adventure. Pool and hot tub were out of service during our stay. It is located in a great area so its quite but you are a short walk away from the fun. About a 15 minute walk to the train station.
It is an ancient building with historical significance. But maybe not good for living inside. Overall is out dated furniture and interior. Pros 1. My room 326 has beautiful river views. 2. The staff is very friendly, everyone does. 3. The mini bar is free and replenished daily. 4. The coffee in breakfast is really nice. 5. The bed is good for sleeping. 6. Good insulation of sound, I almost hear nothing about people walking or talking in my adjacent room. 7. 5 min walk from Amsterdam central. Cons 1. The air conditioning is cold and even with the control panel, the temperature can’t turn up. I complained to the front desk and I have a heater in my room….which is ok at least a solution. 2. The shower head is leaking and the water pressure is low. After complaining to the front desk, it is not improved. 3. The socket for power is not sufficient, that have only located in the TV area, no socket near the bed. 4. The sauna area is small and there is no staff there. 5. The breakfast doesn’t have much choice, they has egg dish which is made by order. Not the variety I would expect for a 5 star hotel. 6. WiFi is unstable, I would use my cellular data instead… For the people enjoying living in an ancient house will love the hotel. But for me I prioritized hotel amenities like WiFi and water pressure and power outlets and renovated interior.
I had a lot of little communication issues at this hotel with my group in organising group arrivals & departures. Not the type & level of service i had expected from a 5 star hotel. The hotel architecture is absolutely fantastic & quirky but there seem to be a lot of issues with the hotel, or atleast that was my experience. Jeremy - the duty manager listened to my grievances patiently & offered something as an apology. Having said all of this, two staff in particular, Marcos and Dale turn this not so good experience around completely! They were both very personable and kind. Always smiling with good energy. The level of professionalism, customer service, positive attitude & willingness to help were all oozing out of their personalities. The reason I gave 4 star to the rating is due to the multiple issues I have had and I would have probably gone for 3 but its these two individuals raised it to 4 as if I were to rate Marcos and Dale individually, I would give them both 6 stars out of 5. These are the kind of people you want to keep and give raises ti them in their roles and responsibilities because they have the absolute perfect attitude of hospitality! Thanks very much to both!
This hotel was booked for us by VBT bicycle tours, fabulous place to stay. Clean, comfortable and the staff were were helpful. They were kind enough to move us to a ground floor as I had broken a toe and was struggling a bit too walk. Would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Amsterdam, very close to transportation and local sights.
