Van der Valk Hotel Amsterdam - Amstel

I came to this hotel to attend Magic Con Amsterdam 2026, and this wasn’t my first time staying here — I had already visited during the same event in 2024, and it was just as successful back then. The hotel maintains an impressive level of cleanliness and communication. They were very responsive, even though my reservation was made only by email a few months in advance. The follow‑up was excellent, and the attention to detail is truly remarkable. It’s a bit of a shame that no one mentioned the Spa area to me — even if it comes with an extra fee, I definitely would have spent some time there. The breakfast is one of the best I’ve had in a long time, absolutely nothing to complain about. This hotel is genuinely incredible. The room was clean, beautiful, and offered a great view. I also loved the convenience of having 24/7 pizza delivery available. Overall, it was a really great stay in an excellent hotel, and I will return without hesitation.
Superb stay in a beautiful hotel! Great location, close to the metro and less than 25 minutes from Amsterdam Central. A big thank you to all the staff, especially Nadia, for being so attentive and welcoming. The breakfast was generous and delicious, and the bar/restaurant was equally excellent. We loved our time here and will definitely be back!
We stayed at this hotel for three nights at the end of March 2026 and were, unfortunately, very disappointed—especially with the suite. Given the price range of €220 to €280 per night for one of the hotel’s top room categories, we expected a significantly higher standard. The Room Experience The first suite offered to us was unacceptable. It had a pungent smell of cleaning chemicals and was located on the 3rd floor, directly facing a student residence. From the outside, one could see into practically the entire suite. Since the bathroom and shower are made entirely of glass, we would have had to keep the curtains closed at all times to maintain any privacy. We requested a room change immediately. We were then moved to a suite on the 4th floor, which offered slightly more privacy. However, we were surprised to learn that all suites are located on the 3rd and 4th floors. In a building with 17 floors of guest rooms, you would expect a premium category to be situated in a much more attractive, higher location. The second suite was equally underwhelming: Condition: The view was poor, and the furniture was worn and partially damaged. Cleanliness: The textured wallpaper in the toilet area was covered in stains and looked neglected. We also found stains on the bed linen, walls, cupboards, and tables. Maintenance: There was stale water left in both the kettle and the coffee machine. The windows could not be opened, and while German TV channels were listed, many had no signal. Amenities: In the bathroom, there were only three hooks for two people—not nearly enough for towels and bathrobes. Also, the two-ply toilet paper was very rough. Note: On a positive note, the bed was comfortable, and the shower and bathtub were of good quality. Wellness & Pool Area The wellness area was another letdown. While the long opening hours were a plus, the lack of supervision was an issue: guests were using smartphones inside the sauna, and rules were clearly not enforced. The pool is very shallow (1.20 m), heavily chlorinated, and barely suitable for swimming. Furthermore, the advertised counter-current system was unusable; instead of a control button, there was just a deep hole in the wall. The staff member on duty was neither aware of the feature nor able to provide any assistance. Service & Dining Staff were friendly when approached directly, but generally lacked attentiveness. We were rarely greeted and never proactively assisted. As for breakfast, it was "okay," but for a hotel in the Netherlands, we expected a much better and wider selection of local cheeses and cold cuts. Conclusion For a price of €220–€280 per night, the price-performance ratio was simply not right. The suite was a major disappointment and did not meet the visual or qualitative standards one should expect from this category.
Stayed at Van der Valk Hotel Amsterdam Amstel, conveniently located next to Overamstel metro station, making it very easy to reach from Amsterdam Zuid and well connected to the rest of the city. The neighborhood is still developing but feels practical and well positioned for both business and leisure trips. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We stayed on the 16th floor, enjoying a large room with a jacuzzi and a great view over the city, which made the stay feel a bit special. The bar area is particularly cosy, with comfortable couches, a fireplace, that make it a nice place to relax in the evening. Service was very good both at the bar and in the restaurant — attentive, friendly, and efficient. Another convenient feature is the 24/7 self‑service shop, which is useful for small essentials at any time of the day. The hotel also offers bike rentals, a great option for exploring Amsterdam like a local. Parking is available for €25 per day, which is actually quite reasonable compared to street parking prices in the city. Because of its facilities and location, the hotel attracts quite a few business travelers, so you feel that atmosphere a bit. Still, it works perfectly well for regular tourism too and makes a comfortable base to explore Amsterdam. Overall, a solid and comfortable hotel with good amenities and service
