アグニエテンカペル、または聖アグネスの礼拝堂は、アムステルダムにおける最も古い中世の礼拝堂の1つであり、1397年に建てられ、1470年の火災後に再建されました。アグニエテンカペルは、中世の建物の趣を残しつつ、天井画やステンドグラス窓に見られる見事なルネッサンス様式のデザインが特徴のゴシック様式の礼拝堂です。アグニエテンカペルは1632年以来、学習や科学活動の重要な拠点でした。アテナエウム・イルストレ、現在のアムステルダム大学の前身であり、バルレウスとヴォッシウスによって創設された学校では、古代芸術、天文学、科学研究の技術が教えられました。アグニエテンカペルには、17世紀初頭以来、知識が生徒に伝えられてきた国内最古の講堂もあります。
