1956年に建設された国立記念碑は、高さ22メートルで、アムステルダムのダム広場に位置しています。この記念碑は第二次世界大戦の犠牲者を追悼するために建てられました。記念碑には、柱と称される彫刻「平和」が含まれており、苦しみ、忠誠、勝利、解放、新しい生命を象徴しています。柱と彫刻を取り囲む同心円があります。5月4日はオランダの国民追悼の日です。毎年この日に、記念碑で式典が行われ、王室ファミリーが第二次世界大戦で亡くなった人々を追悼して記念の花輪を置きます。
