Pipe Museum
Amsterdam
The Amsterdam Pipe Museum boasts a wide collection of nearly 20,000 pipes. Only 2,000 or so are displayed at one time, but they span the globe. Pipes have foundations in native peoples in North and South America and many ancient cultures. The pipes displayed are made from various materials such as wood, ivory, porcelain, bone, stone, glass, metal, and others. In the Dutch Golden age, pipes were a status symbol. Poor people could not afford to smoke. Other interesting facts are offered in this Dutch canal house that is within the canal ring s and is very accessible.
