The Shipping House is one of the most celebrated buildings in Amsterdam. Built between 1912-1916 in the Amsterdamse school architechture style, formerly this building housed the headquarters Amsterdam's most prominent shipping companies. Now, it is the site of one of the most prominent hotels in Amsterdam, the five-star Grand Hotel Amrâth. The bridge leading to the Scheepvaarthuis was designed in conjunction with the building itself. Inside, you will find a breath-taking grand staircase and stained glass roof, depicting various maritime symbols. Though a room at this luxurious hotel maybe out of your price range, lunch or a drink is affordable and well worth checking out the building.
