Housed in an impressive baroque-style structure is Amsterdam's municipal theatre, the Stadsschouwburg. The theatre showcases various intriguing productions that include national as well as international theatre, music and dance performances. The auditorium, shaped like a horse-shoe is adorned by golden chandeliers, velvet red curtains, grand stairs, impressive wall paintings and can seat about 1200 visitors.
