De Bijenkorf literally translates as the Beehive and is a big, busy and buzzy luxury department store located right on Dam square in central Amsterdam. Founded in 1870 De Bijenkorf has gone from being a small shop with four employees to a huge department store chain found in most major Dutch cities. De Bijenkorf building on the Dam was originally built in 1912 and then rebuilt many times in the following years and is now the largest and most well known 'De Bijenkorf' in the country with six floors. You can find the designer fashion brands galore here at De Bijenkorf. There are six floors to enjoy selling everything from perfumes, jewellery, accessories and the latest clothing trends. There is also a hairdresser, an art gallery, a self service café, the Nespresso counter and De Bijenkorf Kitchen a 500 seat restaurant that takes over the entire 5th floor.
