Things To Do in Amsterdam

Amsterdam isn’t just about the canals and bikes, though those are great too. If you want a different angle on the city, try wandering through Jordaan’s narrow streets where old-school brown cafés hide behind colorful flower boxes. Or grab a spot on a local’s favorite canal boat and watch the city glide by at a relaxed pace. And for a breath of fresh air, Vondelpark is great to stroll or picnic, especially in spring when tulips bloom everywhere.

If museums are your thing, skip the lines at the Rijksmuseum by booking ahead and check out that cheeky Van Gogh Museum nearby. Art lovers often miss the tiny FOAM photography museum tucked in a quiet street, which is well worth an hour. Evenings in Amsterdam have a laid-back side too, head to De Pijp for some great street food and buzzing bars that don’t feel touristy.

One local tip? Rent a bike but stick to quiet neighborhoods like Oost to avoid the hectic city centre traffic zones. And look for a late-afternoon canal cruise: the soft light makes everything look magical. Amsterdam always has something new up its sleeve; you just need to know where to look.
