Restaurant Vijaya, in Gelderskade 23, is one of the few Indian-cum-Indonesian restaurants that you'll come across. As a place where samosas and semurs come hand in hand. With the hand-stitched mattresses adorning the walls with Hindu inscriptions and popular Bollywood music setting the tune, the restaurant conveys a wholeheartedly ethnic Indian ambience.
Inside Restaurant Vijaya
Restaurant Vijaya emanates a tasteful blend of ethnic and contemporary. The colour red seems to be the operative word here, which can be seen in the walls, ceilings and murals. The hanging lamps remind one of the opulent Maharaja palaces of Jodhpur and Bikaner while the mannequins of two richly-clad Rajput-like figures holding tamburas also portray a courtly appeal.
Indian Food
Coming to the food itself, Restaurant Vijaya offers two basic menus; Indian and Indonesian. The Indian menu is out-and-out North Indian, with the koftas, kebabs and kormas taking top spot. They even have a number of thalis, full course assortments of a number of dishes to ensure you get to sink your tooth on everything.
Indonesian Food
Moving on to the Indonesian entrees, some of the items on the menu bear resemblance to the Indian menu, what with the tikka masala and saag, but oriental cuisines such as Nasi Goreng and Ayam Semur are also popular. Finally, they even have an eight-course seafood special, which should only be sampled if you're a large group with herculean appetites.
